Weather Policies

Lightning

If there is lightning swimmers must get out of the pool. The coach, Civic Center staff or both make the call on when swimmers need out of the pool.

If the storm continues and they are not able to get back in the pool practice will be canceled.   If this happens a coach will stay at the Civic Center until all swimmers are picked up or until the normal practice time is over, whichever comes first.

Severe Weather - Snow/Ice

If school is canceled due to weather practice is canceled.

Swim Meets Weather

Swim meets are usually never canceled.  Yes - except for the time the pool was hit by a tornado ~ there is always an exception to the rule.  Please watch the weather and make the proper arrangements for your safety and driving time.

If a meet is canceled or the time set back the coaches will call all swimmers.   Please make sure we have a current cell phone number.

Emergency Policies

Michelle Hanson, SBD Safety Director, reminded me that all parents should be made aware of SBD's plan in case of an emergency.

In case an incident arises concerning the safety of the swimmers or the pool being closed following is the chain of events that will happen.

The authorities, the Civic Center staff or the coaches  will contact Michelle or myself.  At that time we will do the following:

If before school is dismissed

    • All Sullivan schools will be called and an announcement made over the intercom
    • All out of town swimmers the current phone number on file will be called
    • For swimmers under the age of 8 all efforts will be made to also notify the parents via phone
    • If possible the information will be posted on the front of the web-site

If the incident occurs during practice

  • First priority the coaches will follow the best measures for safety of the swimmers
  • Second they will contact Michelle or I who will proceed to contact parents via phones
  • The coaches will stay will all swimmers until they are picked up
  • An e-mail will be sent after the incident to let parents know the current status of the situation                                                                               or give the all clear for the next day's practice
  • The notice will also be posted on the web-site as soon as possible

All board members have a phone list and we will utilize them to help make calls to all members.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Michelle Hanson at 728-8816.

Thank you,
